Extensible Neuroimaging Vocabulary for Data Sharing

From Neuroimaging Datasharing
Jump to: navigation, search

This page is intended to collate and curate terms pertaining to data types and measurement modalities occuring in the field of neuroimaging, especially focused on magnetic resonance imaging raw and processed datasets. This vocabulary will be proposed as a datatype naming convention for data sharing using XNAT/XCEDE/CFF. Whenever possible, the short name or abbreviation should be defined, if possible, links to existing ontologies or semantic wikis such as Radlex or Neurolex should be added.
This information source will be automatically exported to an XML-file for later processing.

General data types

Data types not pertaining to on specific data structure, but applicable to e.g. volumes, surfaces, networks, tracks.

Segmentation A segmentation/labeling/coloring of entities on a volume (voxel), surface (vertices or faces), 2D image (pixels), network (nodes or edges), tractography (fibers). *Need more refinement*
Probability map Similar to segmentation, but quantifying probability of segmentation e.g. across a population, might also use statistical distribution as model, i.e. storing of parameters

Attribute Network A general type of network with attributes on the nodes and edges
Dynamic Network A network that changes its topology and/or connection strength over time
Hierarchical Network A network that expresses some hierarchy
Structural Network A network containing structural, connectome data
Functional Network A network where connections express some functional measure between timeseries
Effective Network A network where connections express some sort of causal relationship

Statistical Distributions

The parameters of statistical distributions can be expressed for instance on volumetric data structures, surfaces or networks. The Nifti-1 standard proposes a standard for distribution names and labelings using intent codes. Please refer to Nifti-1 Statistical Distributions Specification
